🚔 Operation Spotlight - Keeping Young Drivers Safe 🚔

As part of Operation Spotlight, officers conducted a roadside checkpoint on Stoney Lane, Allerton, Bradford, between 7:00pm and 8:30pm, focusing on drivers aged 17-24 years.

During the operation, officers stopped and engaged with 20 drivers, providing road safety advice and promoting safer driving habits. As a result of the checks: 
✅ 2 seatbelt offence tickets were issued
✅ 1 driver was reported for driving without due care and attention

Operation Spotlight forms part of West Yorkshire's Vision Zero strategy, which aims to reduce road deaths and serious injuries to zero by 2040.

Young drivers aged 17-24 are disproportionately represented in serious road traffic collisions, accounting for around 24% of fatal or serious injury crashes in Britain. Each year, almost 5,000 people are killed or seriously injured in collisions involving a young driver.

Through education, engagement and enforcement, Operation Spotlight seeks to improve road safety and encourage responsible driving behaviours among young motorists.
